What’s In A Word?

Sheila at Book Journey shares a wonderful tradition of selecting a single word at the beginning of the year.  Here is a link to her post: One Word….What Can A New Year Bring? and a second post here: Retiring a Word…. Bringing In A New One.

My 2014 word was Reach, with the goal of improving my Social Networking skills.  (It helped.)

I don’t remember if I picked a word for 2015.

My word for 2016 is Simplify.  My goal is to declutter and simplify my life.  I ordered an inspirational necklace, from JennsHanmade Jewlery on Etsy (with a pearl) in order to help me keep this idea at the forefront throughout the year.

Paring down on things can be daunting.  That is why I plan to do it in continual small steps throughout the new year.  Removing old or unwanted things from my life will hopefully simplify it, while making room for more important things.

Do you have a word for 2016?

  1. I think that ‘simplify’ is a great word. Sometimes our lives seem so cluttered, don’t they? Good luck with it!

  2. I had simplicity last year. I tell ya’, it was the most powerful word that I focused on. When you simplify, it allows time and space to focus on other things that are important. I wish you a year of great awakening.

  3. Great word Pat. And love the necklace. I think as we get older we begin to see how decluttering is important. I even hesitate to buy something without thinking a few times about it.
Coming up with my word, just living with it for a few days to see if it’s right!

  4. Great word! I have been trying to declutter this year, but I think I went overboard, which is why I am now trying to achieve balance. Thanks for visiting my post.

  5. This is a great word for the year! It is something my husband and I are also trying to do this year – we have been going through our things, donating, throwing away the excess. We recently decided to cut the cord on cable, and even traded in our fancy phones for less expensive models that do less. I think we all get too mired down with stuff.

    The necklace is beautiful!

  6. Simplify is a great word for me this year. My son and I are moving from a 2200 sq. foot home to one that is 1/3 that size. I need to go through everything we own and only keep what I absolutely need or want.

Good luck with your word in 2916!

  7. Great word! And I love the necklace. I got an inspiration necklace with my word on it as well. I love wearing it and having it be a physical reminder of what I want to do this year. Good luck and enjoy the process!

  8. That is the PERFECT word! The older I get the more I try to embrace that word. Love the necklace too.
