What’s In A Word

Some of my past words: Reach (2014), ? (2015), Simplify (2016),  Strength (2017).

Continuing with a tradition started with Sheila over @ Book Journey, I am selecting a new word for 2018, a word to reflect on throughout next year.  This year my word is Joy!  While considering this for my word, I began to see it a lot.  It is the holiday season, so it’s no wonder.  I was definitely feeling hints of this word last year too.  I thought I would hang onto this thought throughout 2018!

Going through family medical issues for over a year and having successful outcomes, I feel we have a lot to be joyful for.  I will call on this feeling throughout the new year.  Being joyful, also brings on feelings of being grateful to the powers that be.

I appreciate all my friends who follow my posts.  I wish you much joy this holiday season and much joy throughout the new year.

What’s In A Word?

“Life is a journey, not a destination.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sheila at Book Journey started a wonderful tradition of selecting a single word at the beginning of the year to focus on throughout the year.  A few years ago I joined her.  You are welcome to join in too.

Please stop by Book Journey to read Sheila’s inspirational post about her word for 2017: The POWER of One Word.

For 2017, I choose the word, ‘Strength‘.  I chose this word hoping to be strong, both physically and mentally and to be surrounded by strength.

I’ve noticed how much strength already surrounds me with many of the people I come in to contact with!

Simple Definition of strength

  • : the quality or state of being physically strong
  • : the ability to resist being moved or broken by a force
  • : the quality that allows someone to deal with problems in a determined and effective way

(Merriam-Webster)

My words are part of a journey not a destination.  I plan to keep working on simplifying & reaching as well throughout 2017.  Here is my list so far:

2014: Reach

2015: ?

2016: Simplify

2017: Strength

Did you select a word to focus on for the new year?  I’d love to hear from you!  Please share your word in the comments section for this post.

Happy New Year everyone!

Sheila at Book Journey shares a wonderful tradition of selecting a single word at the beginning of the year.  Here is a link to her post: One Word….What Can A New Year Bring? and a second post here: Retiring a Word…. Bringing In A New One.

My 2014 word was Reach, with the goal of improving my Social Networking skills.  (It helped.)

I don’t remember if I picked a word for 2015.

My word for 2016 is Simplify.  My goal is to declutter and simplify my life.  I ordered an inspirational necklace, from JennsHanmade Jewlery on Etsy (with a pearl) in order to help me keep this idea at the forefront throughout the year.

Paring down on things can be daunting.  That is why I plan to do it in continual small steps throughout the new year.  Removing old or unwanted things from my life will hopefully simplify it, while making room for more important things.
